  • The 10 Best Tent Fans – Reviews 2022

    1. OPOLAR Air Circulating USB Fan – Best Overall

    OPOLAR 10000mAh

When we think of technology, we don’t normally think of fans, but this is an awesome fan highlighted by the technology it comes with. Made with a rechargeable battery, this product is charged by USB and has serious staying power. Able to run on a full charge for up to a whole 24 hours, you will be able to cool off easily during your trip when things get a bit too warm. The USB itself is a fast charging port, so if the battery dies, you won’t have to wait forever to cool down again. Mounted on a clamp and capable of 360 degrees of movement, if you are outside of the tent, you’ll be able to take this fan anywhere you want. Even on the highest of its four settings, the noise created by this fan can be described as a relaxing hum. This product from OPOLAR is ideal for use in a tent.

While made with rechargeable batteries, this fan still requires two AA batteries to power it. But this is a small price to pay for such a good product.

    Pros
    • USB charged
    • Up to 24 hours of life
    • 360 degrees of movement
    Cons
    • Requires 2 AA batteries

    2. Treva Air Battery Fan – Best Value

    Treva 10-Inch

You could say that we are a fan of puns. This product by Treva just might share our sense of humor, as it is advertised as “Cool by Design.” With a built-in handle, this 10-inch fan is made to be taken anywhere and everywhere. Notably resembling a modern-looking box fan, this product is sleek and small and lightweight. When you are out in the woods in your tent, you will be powering it with 6 D batteries. It gets the most out of them, as on its low setting, this fan can keep going for up to 48 hours. This is because the fan blades themselves were designed to save energy. Not only are they efficient, but they are also quiet.

Of course, where value is found, there is normally some flaw. The life on this motor is inconsistent. There have been claims that it dies as quickly as a month.

    Pros
    • Quiet
    • Last for up to 48 hours
    Cons
    • Motor dies quickly

    3. Geek Aire Rechargeable Floor Fan – Premium Choice

    Geek Aire CF1

You can charge your phone with this fan! This is actually quite useful when you are out on a camping trip and your battery dies. Of course, this fan also keeps you cool! The fan itself is rechargeable with the included 24V power charger. Depending on what setting you have it on, this fan can stay charged for up to 24 hours and only takes four hours of charging to get to full again. It is also made to be able to withstand the elements, as it is water resistant. Though mounted in a metal frame, it is still light and offers 120 degrees of movement, plenty for any tent gathering. You would also think something so rugged would be loud, but this fan is as quiet as it gets. There is quite the design flaw, though: Once the battery finally dies, you will be unable to buy a replacement, making it not so great for camping. It’ll still work if plugged in, though. This fan comes with a two-year warranty.

    Pros
    • Charges your phone
    • 24-hour battery life
    • 120 degrees of movement
    • Two-year warranty
    Cons
    • Cannot replace battery

    4. VIVOSUN Clip on Oscillating Fan

    VIVOSUN Patented

This is the first fan on our list that was designed specifically with tents in mind. The custom clamp is made especially for tent poles, so you can have this fan anywhere inside your tent. Designed with classic fans in mind, the inside components are made with high-grade material, so it starts off quiet and stays quiet. The mesh cage keeps anything unwanted out. This fan has 90 degrees of oscillation and is capable of 120 degrees of movement from its clamp.

A goofy aspect of this fan is that sometimes it arrives at your door having been assembled backwards. All it takes to fix the issue is unscrewing it and screwing it back on the right way, but it is something to look out for if this is the fan you choose. As for durability, the fan itself is pretty good, though the oscillating function is sometimes short lived.

    Pros
    • 90 degrees of oscillation
    • Classic design
    • Made specifically for tents
    • Very quiet
    Cons
    • Oscillation durability

    5. DEWALT DCE511B Cordless Fan

    DEWALT 20V MAX

Dewalt has an aesthetic, and they certainly don’t stray from it with this tent fan. If there was ever a fan trying to look like a drill, this is it. We love Dewalt drills, so we had high hopes for this fan. The verdict? It’s pretty good! There really aren’t too many variables when it comes to first impressions of a fan. The first test is whether the fan cools you off. This one certainly does. The second test is if the fan oscillates. This one does not. As for long-term use, Dewalt’s offering comes in at seven hours, much less than the 24-48 hours that earlier products on this list have touted. At the same time, this fan is meant for the work site, so there isn’t much need for it on a camping trip. It’s not the lightest fan and certainly isn’t the prettiest, but it’s a Dewalt and gets the job done. Made with two mounting arms, you might have to get creative with how you hang it up in your tent. The power cord is 11 inches long, and you cannot run it on a battery and a power cord at the same time.

If you are familiar with Dewalt, you know that you’re going to get something rugged that will last a while and is shockingly yellow. As such, this fan is a bit louder than the others on this list. None of the complaints we have heard about this product have anything to do with performance, but with the price.

    Pros
    • Sturdy
    • Powerful
    Cons
    • Loud

    6. REENUO Camping Fan

    REENUO 4400mAh

On the surface, this could very well have been our top pick. Not only is it good at doing what fans do, which is cooling you off, it also has an awesome set of other abilities. This fan is mosquito repellent, has an LED light built into it, lasts for over 40 hours, and comes with a neat hanging mount. The battery is fully rechargeable, and with 360 degrees of motion, you can set this fan up anywhere and still be able to access the breeze. It is also made with safety in mind, as the protective covering has openings designed in such a way that kids can’t stick their fingers in there. This fan has a USB port and can be charged with anything that is USB compatible, including car charging ports. Two sponges on the back can be used as a mosquito repellent. This product comes with a one-year warranty.

One adaptation that works well with this fan is upgrading the batteries. The ones it comes with are okay but have a pretty short life. If you look at the specs of the fan, you’ll be able to find the same kind of batteries elsewhere, but of higher quality. The reason this fan is number six on our list is because we recommend changing out one of the crucial components of the item. Outside of that, this fan is ideal for camping.

    Pros
    • Mosquito repellent
    • Over 40 hours of life
    • 360 motion
    • LED light
    Cons
    • Stock batteries are no good and need replacing

    7. Coleman 6 Lighted Tent Fan

    Coleman CPX 6

This fan also comes with a light, but this one has two settings. You can either use it as a shining light or as a night light. This is also the first fan on our list that mounts using a magnet. As for the actual fan part, it has two settings: high and low. On low, it runs for up to 30 hours, and on high, it runs for around 10 hours. The blades are made from foam, so it’s child safe. You can also choose between three different power sources, though it is not clear if you can use one after the other or if they all pull from the same place. With that said, if you decide to use batteries, you will need 4 D cell batteries. Luckily, this fan generates very little noise.

Speaking of little, this fan doesn’t have much power. On the hottest of days, you will probably wish you had something more substantial. We’ve also heard reports that the batteries don’t operate as long as advertised, but most users are happy with the battery life they get out of this product by Coleman.

    Pros
    • Two light modes
    • Two power settings
    • Up to 30 hours of charge
    • Quiet
    Cons
    • Not very powerful
    • Inconsistent battery life

    8. Gazeled Quiet Camping Fan

    Gazeled

Gazeled has made a fan with total user-friendly operation by adding a timer so you don’t even have to worry about turning it off. There’s nothing worse on a hot summer day than coming back to the tent to a dead fan! Though made for the office, it doubles nicely as a tent fan. On its highest speed, it can last up to eight hours, and on its lowest, up to 40. Rechargeable and made with USB ports, this fan is a fan for the times. The bottom has magnets so you can hang it or mount it anywhere. If you bring something metal that will stay on the top of your tent, you can have a makeshift ceiling fan while you are out camping! This fan is also advertised as the quietest fan on the market.

Unfortunately, this fan is pretty small, and sometimes the USB plug just stops working. That takes it from “rechargeable” to just “broken.” The power button has a tendency to slip inside of the fan, making it impossible to turn on. It’s also not very quiet, considering its size. So, when it works, it’s great. But it breaks down quite easily.

    Pros
    • USB charging
    • Lasts up to 40 hours
    • Magnetic mounts
    Cons
    • Power button breaks
    • USB stops working
    • Not quiet

    9. BaseCamp F235100 Tent Fan

    BaseCamp F235100

The BaseCamp tent fan is aesthetically the most pleasing on this list. It comes with similar features as other products we’ve mentioned. With a low and high setting, you’ll be staying cool for a while, within 48 hours of battery life on low or 24 hours of life on high. The fan also doubles as a light, which is wonderful for when you want to play card games or read in your tent, and it is reasonably quiet.

However, when looking at the product and the product specs, we noticed something important: There is a legal disclaimer letting you know that this product contains chemicals that are known to cause cancer, birth defects, and other reproductive harm. We like cooling down and relaxing on a warm day just like anybody else, but that was a bit much for us.

    Pros
    • Two speed settings
    • Up to 48-hour battery life
    • Doubles as a light
    Cons
    • Might cause cancer

    10. OUTXE Camping Fan

    OUTXE Camping Fan

As with the previous product, this fan has all the bells and whistles of prior fans on our list. It is charged via USB, touts a nice battery life, and is quiet. It mounts from the top, gives you plenty of flexibility to move, and doubles as a night light.

Why is this last one our list? Because it mostly just doesn’t work, and when it does, it’s hardly noticeable. You basically need to have this fan right in your face to notice anything at all. When working properly, you can have up to four hours of very close cooling power, but normally, it dies much quicker than that.

    Pros
    • USB charging
    • Quiet
    Cons
    • Very weak
    • Breaks quickly

    Buyers Guide

Camping can be an awesome experience. During the dead of summer, though, it can be ruined by extreme temperatures. That’s why it is so important to have something that will cool you off when things get really hot. There are quite a few fans out there, and you would think finding the perfect one would be easy, but these products can be deceptive. Here are a few things to consider.

How powerful of a fan do you need?

You should consider how hot it is going to be and how big of a space you want to cool. Most tent fans have some level of flexibility but are manual operation. There are some oscillating tent fans out there, which may be perfect for what you need, but you might also be sacrificing power for that feature.

How long do you need it?

These fans come with quite the variance when it comes to battery life. Some will last for four hours, and to the uninitiated, that sounds pretty good, until you get to some of the better fans that boast a battery life of up to 48 hours.

    How about the add-ons?

Nowadays, it seems rare that a fan is just a fan. Whether it is being used to charge your phone, read a book, or repel bugs, tent fans can do quite a bit these days. If this is something that interests you, there are quite a few products out there; otherwise, you might want to just stick to the classic models.

    How about the elements?

Different fans are made to withstand different levels of bad elements. Some might break down if a drop of water touches them, while others are designed specifically to be able to withstand monsoon conditions. You’ll have to ask yourself: Are you glamp or are you gruff?

    Warranty

Most of these are pretty inexpensive, so warranties aren’t really warranted, but a few of the nicer models do come with protection packages. If you really cherish your tent fan, you might want to consider this when shopping.

    Conclusion

With camping being such a big passion of ours, we have to admit that this is one of the coolest reviews we’ve ever done. Our top pick, the OPOLARreally changed the way we think when it comes to the capability of a tent fan, but we were equally impressed with our value pick (Treva) and our premium pick (Geek Aire). Some people think that camping is a casual affair, while others take it very seriously. Whatever type of camper you are, we hope that these reviews help you find that perfect product to keep you cool.
